Competition fuels the business industry. With today’s highly competitive market, every business strives to be the best out there. This is beneficial for consumers, but for businesses this is a tough job. So, how do businesses stand out the stiff competition? There’s a simple answer to that—the business cards.

Because they are small and handy, business card are effective when attending business events, meeting customers face to face, or when you simply meet a potential customer on the street. With a good business card, you get to have the best visual representation of you and your business in the market. But if you are new in the business industry, creating a business card may be confusing to you. But not to worry; we will make the process easy for you. Here are the 3 basic ingredients in designing a business card:

Materials to use. Standard business cards are printed on paper. These paper cardstocks are made from different weight, texture, and color. When it comes to paper weight, most card stock comes between 50 to 110 pounds. In terms of texture, you can choose between smooth or rough and matte or glossy. With color, most businesses use cream or white paper because of its simplicity and just about any text color can be used to print in these papers. Ask you printer which type of paper weight, texture, and color fit your business card.

Effects. There are basically different effects you can use in your business cards depending on the design that you want to achieve. Some of them are the following:

• Embossing. This is basically done by applying heat and pressure on the paper to produce a raised area on the paper. No ink is needed on the embossed part. In many cases, logos and other images are commonly embossed on business cards.
• Embellishments. There are virtually endless options when it comes to putting embellishments in your business cards. The only thing that would restrict you is your budget. Check with your printer to get an idea on what kind of embellishment would fit your card and your budget.
• Coating. Many businesses don’t go for coatings in their cards as it is an added cost, but you may want to opt for a water resistant or UV protective coating in your cards to keep them protected. This will make your card more durable and last for a long time.
• Special materials. Standard business cards are printed on paper, but today many businesses use other materials for their cards such as wood, plastic, and even metal. Plastic cards are the most popular these days. They come in different colors and are available in clear, frosted, or opaque.

Printing. Today, there are a lot of ways to print a business card. But of course, all will depend on the output you desire and your budget. You simply have to find the best printer that will fit your printing need. You can search online or offline for the print shop that will do your printing job. Just be sure to do a thorough research to determine which printer fits best with your budget and your business card printing need. BUT if you desire to make a simple card, preferably a black and white card, you can consider printing your own cards. This way you get to save a lot in the printing cost.
