Wouldn't it be great if you could spend just one winter without taking any sick days, either for you or for your kids? And with those rampant flu germs circulating the earth, it's going to be even tougher than usual to stay healthy this season. Here are some things you should do to make sure that this year's flu, as well as swine flu, stay far away from you and your kids.
1. Wait in line for those flu shots. Please ignore any hype you may hear AGAINST the swine flu shot; the swine flu vaccines are safe and are highly recommended for children, pregnant women, the elderly, and anyone else who may be at a higher risk of contracting the virus.
2. Encourage a clean lifestyle. You and your kids should be sure to clean your hands before every meal or snack you eat and after you come in contact with other people. Of course it goes without saying that if you have a cold or another sickness (especially the flu!) that you should be extra careful about this! Germs spread so quickly and so easily through very basic contact.
3. Limit contact with sick people. Try and keep your distance people who have colds or coughs, and if you can't limit contact, be extra scrupulous in washing your hands and face after contact. If your kids have even the slightest cold, you may want to consider keeping them home from school for a day and bringing them to the doctor, just to be sure that it's not something more serious. And you do not want to be responsible for infecting other people. Your doctor may recommend that you and your kids take a run of Tamiflu, just to be on the safe side. You can always , in advance from your preferred, just so you can be ready in a flash to fight that flu!
