When it comes time to consider the next vacation, or time away from the rat race, serious thought needs to be given to white water rafting in Colorado. This can be an adventure that will provide excitement that you will talk about for years to come. It can be a great family time or time for a couple who just want to be together for some fun and excitement. Or this can be a fun teaching opportunity for a company that wants their staff to better understand what it means to work together as a team. Whatever the motivation, there is nothing quite like it. However, with white water rafting there are some things that need to be remembered.

1. The novice rafter should do some research and choose a reputable and experienced guide company. Experienced whitewater guides know well ahead what you are going to experience. That's a big safety factor. If you have confidence in the professionalism of the person doing the guiding, it will be easier to relax, feel safe and experience the fullness of the adventure. Remember the scream you let out when you go cross a rapid should be of joy and not terror.

2. The class of the rapids needs be considered. The beginner might not want to take the more adventurous trip. There are different levels or classes of white water trips. If you've not gone before you might not be prepared for class 3 rapids. You might want to start out with a class 1 where the water is moving but only slightly rough. Class 2 can have rapids up to three feet and some maneuvering is needed. Class 3 can have up to 4 foot rapids and usually will involve some narrow channels with rapidly moving water. This where the real excitement begins, and you can count on getting wet. White water rafting in Colorado offers trips up to class 5 rapids.

3. The weather is always a factor to be considered. In summer in Colorado it can be hot while the rivers are cool. If you choose a gentle float down smooth water with wide canyons and lots of sun, then swim wear, sunglasses and sunscreen fit the bill. If you plan an overnight adrenaline pumping, jaw dropping, scream inducing roller coaster ride through churning white water, then some dry warmer clothes will need to be tucked into a water proof container or bag. Early summer and late summer can be cool at night and warm during the day, so consider that when packing if you plan on going on an overnight trip.

4. Decide how long you want to be on the river. There are various lengths of trips offered, beginning with a few hours, or a full day trip, and up to a few days, depending on who you go with. The first trip you take might not be but a few hours, but there is still adventure to be had. If you choose to go overnight or over several nights the professional guide services will prepare meals and share their extensive knowledge about the history, the plants and wildlife of the area you are passing through. Once you choose the guide service and the length of your trip, you can get a list of the essential items you need from that service.

The better whitewater professional guide companies will have a list of different rivers, different trips, and needed provisions available online. You can also book your trip, watch videos and ask any questions you may have on their websites. So, go online, and check out all the possibilities for real adventure when you go white water rafting in Colorado.
