Fire systems are defined as a combination of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems. Instead of just alerting the residents or workers of a building that a fire is underway, a fire system will actually do its best to douse out the fire from the beginning to limit the amount of fire and smoke damage to the property. These systems are very useful and widely used in larger buildings like apartment buildings and office buildings.

Dry Pipe

Refrigerator coolers and unheated buildings are the most common users of the dry pipe fire system. This type covers a very large area, larger than the wet pipe system (next), and is considered the second most commonly use type of fire system. The dry pipe system however is much more difficult to install and somewhat more costly. The advantage to colder places is that there is nothing in the pipe to freeze, causing it to burst.

Wet Pipe

The wet pipe fire system is the standard everyday sprinkler system and is the number one most common type of fire system bought today. We pipe systems run water throughout pipes in the ceiling of the building (college dorms and office buildings are places that often use them) and release the water when the sensor detects fire or builds up pressure from extreme heat. Different fire temperatures are no match for the wet pipe system, as it can handle a variety. Because water in pipes cause burst pipes, this system is not commonly used in colder places or unheated buildings like the dry pipe system.

Foam Water Sprinkler

Airports and places where fires are likely to be more condensed and hot use the foam water sprinkler fire system. This system uses both water and foam to put out the fire. These fire systems aren’t as popular as the wet or dry pipe systems.

Pre Action

Pre Action fire systems are very important and widely used in places like libraries, museums, or antique stores. They combine fire system aspects from the wet pipe, dry pipe, and deluge valve systems. This type of system can be further broken down into single and double interlock systems. The single interlock is something like the dry pipe system, while the double interlock is more like the deluge system. The pre action fire system is good for libraries, etc, because they are needed to prevent extreme damage to precious items – the fire must be put out quickly.

Deluge

The deluge valve system is more like the wet pipe fire system than any of the other kinds. The difference between the deluge valve and wet pipe system, however, is that with the deluge valve system water literally pours from every sprinkler. Enormous amounts of water is used for the deluge system, and it is used in places where fire needs to be put out immediately to stop a bigger accident (like an explosion) or to protect vitally important items. It is extremely important to consider all of these factors before deciding which fire system to invest in.
