| Traditional holiday decorators are discovering what electrical engineers have known for a long time: LED Christmas lights are beautiful. Any science fiction shows, like Star Trek, show mysterious, futuristic machines with lots of pretty flashing lights. Even though they are designed to give a sense of unknowable activity, they actually make a pretty good Christmas display. Electrical engineers often use LEDs as indicators to test their designs. They to come to know as they enter their lab, before turning on the lights, that their instruments are making a beautiful display. In addition, they have seen over the years many new colors of LEDs. Originally, LEDs were a bright white, much brighter than a white traditional Christmas bulb. They were manufactured with durable red plastic covers to make the familiar indicators that anyone with a computer is used to seeing. Later, the LEDs begin to be manufactured to emit colors without the need of tinted lenses. Because of their extensive use, red LEDs were made first, followed closely by yellow and green. After a decade, research produced a blue LED. These are the brightest lamps so far. But even more importantly, their color of blue was so deep and rich that engineers scrambled to adjust their designs to accommodate the new color, because it was so beautiful. Over the years, LEDs came down in price to the point where they could be included in commercial products such as LED Christmas lights. They immediately captured the imaginations of holiday decorators because the colors were so intense as compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. In addition, homeowners found that these bulbs did not fade in color after outdoor use. They also found that they did not need to be replaced as often. This brought the use of LED Christmas lights to a new height. But homeowners got another pleasant surprise. LED Christmas lights used only a fraction of the electricity required by traditional lights. They found their electrical bill for their decorations cut by a factor of ten. This accounts for the increasing popularity of LED Christmas lights among homeowners. LED Christmas lights offer all the design options that Christmas decorators are accustomed to with traditional lights. They can even be made to simulate the look of incandescent bulbs. But often, homeowners will want to leave behind traditional lights with their faded colors and yellowish hue in favor of the much brighter LED Christmas lights. This advanced technology allows many more striking combinations of lights. The popular icicle lights have been modified so that only a few strands are present. The bright LED Christmas lights in these strands slowly chase each other down the length. People admiring this display are given the impression of falling snow. Nets of LED Christmas lights can be spread in trees and shrubbery. When flashing, the lights give the impression of sparkling crystals. The ability of LED Christmas lights to enhance the beauty of a Christmas display is astounding. As more designs become available, these LED Christmas lights will become even more popular among Christmas decorators. |
