Whitening gel was first used to whiten teeth in 1884 and although science has progressed a long way since then, there has never been a recorded case of whitening gel damaging the structure of a tooth. Beyond's latest contribution to whitening is using a whitening accelerator (sometimes referred to as a LASER) that actually filters out all harmful UV and IR light, making it the safest Laser Teeth Whitening procedure currently on the market.

In the US, teeth whitening are now a $15 billion industry. The Association of Cosmetic Teeth Whitening reports that UK whitening treatments are now growing at a rate of over 10% per annum, and increasing year on year. This makes it the fastest growing cosmetic industry in the whole of the Ireland.

How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth whitening generally occurs when Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is exposed to the dentine of a tooth (found directly under the enamel). When Hydrogen Peroxide penetrates through the enamel, pigmentation found in the dentine tube oxidizes, rendering a white finish which is reflected through the translucent enamel.

Heat lampTraditional systems incorporate the use of a heat lamp or similar product, to accelerate the oxidization process. The downside of this treatment method is that the use of heat as an accelerant causes a host of adverse symptoms, including; itching and skin irritation, gum irritation, mild to severe burning, sunburn and exposure to harmful UV radiation.

The Beyond system overcomes these harmful effects by using a beam of high intensity blue light, which is filtered through over 12,000 optical fibres. The light is finally filtered through two optical lenses, which have over 30 layers of coated optical glass. The cold, blue light, illuminates teeth at a wavelength of 480 -520 nanometers, which is proven to be the optimal range for teeth whitening.

Harmful Ultra-Violet (UV) light is completely removed from the filtering system, leaving only a focused beam of cold light in the blue-cyan spectrum. This penetrates deep into the teeth, enabling oxidization to occur without any of the harmful side-effects.
