3D illustration is a process of creating 2D representation of a 3D object in the virtual world with the help of 3D software applications. The main role is played by the illustrator or the artist by passing over the design of the structure in a rendered perspective and in the best possible manner to make it attractive and beautiful.
Modelling is an important part of 3D illustration, ranging from character modelling to architectural modelling to even a product prototype or an automobile modelling. Modelling a character for a cartoon role or representing the aliens from a distant planet is entirely different from modelling a building for architectural purpose and analysis. In character modelling of an alien or a cartoon character, no one knows what it looks like so the illustrator can interpret anything and can come along with his own idea. Basic of Modelling
There are many ways to create your 3D illustration in modelling. In fact, everyone has his technique and way to design the same model. However in architectural visualisation, there are some modelling types which has to be mastered by every illustrator in 3DS Max.
These techniques include meshes and shapes, spline, NURBS and patches. These techniques are used in various other parts of a 3D scene, hence it is important for everyone to have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of these techniques of 3D illustration in Modelling.
The hand drawn plans and 2D AutoCad drawings provided by the architects and other design professionals are the basic foundation behind every 3D scenes.
These scenes are then digitized to form a shape which can be used to create more complex objects, along with other objects that complete the entire scene. Many 3D illustrators uses these practice, however some may prefer to model the scene directly in AutoCad and then export to 3D software application for lightning, texturing and rendering. This is because there are no basic rules to follow autocad or a 3D software, unless and until you are able to generate quality products that meets the expectations.
