A career change is a big but possibly hugely beneficial step. Here are some things you can consider.

Spend some time reflecting on your instinct to make such a big change in career. Establish and list what is right and wrong with what you are doing. Be clear what you are looking for as a result of the change.

Then have a look at yourself. Examine your qualifications and work progress. What will help you in future and what will the new career need? It may be that you need to get more qualifications to make real progress in the new area. If that is so, you need to make sure what you have now is enough to base further advances. Some careers require more qualifications than others. Some areas involve a lot of on-the-job training, built on to basic educational standards.

Take some aptitude tests to be clear what your personality is like and what sort of work you are naturally suited to. Do you like groups or working alone? Do you like to give or receive orders? Perhaps you are best with numbers or better with words or pictures. Your mind might be better attuned to language or to mechanics.

From this you can start choosing your new career. Have a look further into interesting areas. Talk to family and friends or work associates who may be able to give you first hand information. Read up on the industry and the major players.

Review your CV and make sure it includes all your recent work and qualifications. Ensure it links your abilities to your prospective new career. Back it up with a relevant covering letter and keep trying until you are met with success. Every rejection teaches you something and you will soon be starting on your new career.
