When you use laminate molding, it can make your floor look much better. Laminate molding is designed to hide the gaps between laminate floor and other floors or to make it come up flush against a wall. Using laminate molding is important when you lay down a floor, but you have to know which types you should use in what occasions. Laminate molding is very important to the look and feel of a laminate floor, and using the wrong type of molding can be quite costly. Molding is used for transitions between laminate and laminate, laminate and other types of floors, and laminate and vertical surfaces. Below is a guide to laminate molding. Threshold laminate molding is used to transition between laminate flooring and exterior door thresholds. These moldings are best used when the threshold is of a different height than the laminate. Quarter round molding is used where laminate buts up against a wall, cabinet, or any other permanent surface. Quarter round laminate molding should usually match the flooring or make a smooth transition between the floor and the wall color. Quarter round laminate moldings generally have a low profile. This type of laminate molding is rounded on the outside but has two flat edges that go flush up against the wall and the laminate. If you have laminate flooring on your stairs, then you will need stair nose laminate molding. This is used to mold the vertical part of a stair to the tread, and there are two types of stair nose laminate molding. The first is flush molding, which means the tread ends exactly at the vertical edge. The other is overlap molding, which allows the tread to overlap over the edge of the stair just a bit. Both of these laminate moldings are popular as more and more families are putting laminate on their stairs. Reducer laminate molding is used to bridge the gap between two floors that are not the same height. You can use reducer laminate molding to bridge the gap because reducer moldings slant, thus hiding the difference between the gaps. If you have laminate flooring and tile, for example, the heights of the two materials may not be the same. Reducer moldings should generally only be used for small differences in floor height. For extreme gaps in height, there are specialized versions of laminate molding available. T laminate molding is used to bridge the gap between a pair of laminate floors. This laminate molding is in the shape of a “T” and it is supported by the floors that surround it. T molding should provide a seamless transition between two laminate floors. If you have a lot of laminate flooring, you will likely have to use a mix of all these types of moldings, or at least a couple. Having a good mix of molding and selecting the right colors and textures will make your floors look very attractive. A wonderful floor can be tarnished by poorly chosen molding, so it's important you think hard about what molding you choose.
