Indian immigrants in the UK, USA and other parts of the world have over the years proved their superior capabilities in diverse fields. NASA the worlds most advanced research station is said to be manned by a large number of Indian scientists, Indian children walking away with laurels in tests ranging from IQ to spelling, maths and entrepreneurial talent have become common news these days.

Now recognition and appreciation comes to the Indian scientific community from the highest quarter. Eight British Nobel Laureates including Russian born Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov who share this years Nobel for Physics, Sir Martin Evans, Sir Tim Hunt, Sir Paul Nurse and Sir Harry Kroto have warned the UK government's plans to put a cap on immigration from outside the EU and India would deprive Britain of international scientific talent and isolate it from a globalised world of research.

Sir Harry Kroto the Nobel winner for chemistry highlighted the unfortunate case of Prashant Jain the Indian Material scientist from the Florida State University who won a fellowship to the Cambridge University but could not enter UK because he did not secure enough in the points based immigration system to be eligible for a work permit. Sir Harry Kroto cited this as a great loss to the UK. The distinguished scientists pointed out that winners like Venkatraman Ramakrishnan have been enriching and enhancing British Science and Society for decades and add to Britain's store of knowledge and inspire countless young students to follow their footsteps.

The eminent scientists noted with disgust that making an exception for the Premier League Footballers in the issual of Visas and keeping out elite engineers and scientists is a sad reflection of Britain's priorities today.
