Firewood log racks are used to hold the chopped wood that you will eventually use in your fireplace. Having firewood log racks is great for helping your fireplace hearth to stay clean and for your log pile to look nice and neat. There are two types of firewood log racks, and those two types come in many different varieties. The two types of firewood log racks are outdoor log racks and indoor log racks. While these two firewood log racks basically serve the same purpose, they are very different in design, size, and function. Having two firewood log racks, one inside and one outside, is a good idea, and you might even want a log carrier to transport logs between the two racks.
Outdoor firewood log racks are typically pretty large and can usually hold an amount of logs that is equivalent to a wood pile that is eight feet wide, four feet high, and four feet deep. Firewood log racks that are outside are more of a long term storage option for the logs you use in your fire. Often times, you will cut the wood during the summer when the wood is dry and the weather is nice and then pile it on the log rack and save it for winter. Depending on how much wood you chop and on how often you build fires in your fireplace, the wood you have on your outdoor log rack could last you all winter without the need for chopping up more. Because these firewood log racks are outdoors, you might want to get a cover for the rack to keep the logs dry and to keep them from collecting too many bugs or too much debris. Outdoor log racks can be made out of different materials, such as metal, acrylic, or wood. You might want to assess the area around where you want to keep your outdoor rack to help you better decide which rack you are going to purchase.
Indoor firewood log racks are sometimes used more for décor, rather than function, but they are pretty functional, too. Having an indoor log rack helps the process of making a fire a little bit more convenient, because the logs are just right there. Indoor log racks are nice because you have your little pile of logs on that, instead of the hearth, keeping the hearth cleaner. Indoor firewood racks can typically only hold one days worth of logs and so you might need to restock them each morning or night. That is where it is nice to have a log carrier, which is sometimes made from metal or fabric or both, that you can take logs from the outside rack and carry them to the inside rack a little easier. Indoor firewood log racks are made from many different materials and can come in different colors, making them fun to use as decorations on the fireplace hearth.
Log racks for your firewood are very handy and there are outdoor racks and indoor racks that both serve important functions. Having both firewood log racks is a good idea to make your fire making experience the best it can be. |
