Acne, a common problem, is found in both adolescents and adults. So it is something that has nothing to do with your age but definitely causes birth to social embarrassment. While you go through this article you will get an idea behind this distressing problem and their effective removal.

Scientifically, called Acne Vulgaris, is a skin problem, common in both sexes of all ages. There are usually two types of Acne. First, that are non-inflamed skin blemishes like whiteheads and blackheads. Second that are inflammatory lesions like papule, pustule, nodule and cyst. These are extremely painful and have a reddish swollen appearance on the skin.

To start with, the prime reason behind acne is the disorder of pilosebaceous unit, that comprises hair, hair follicle and sebaceous glands. This unit is present all over the body except the lower part of our foot, palms and the lower lip. Sebaceous glands present in it produces a greasy substance called sebum that nourishes the skin and hair. This substance spreads over the skin surface giving it an oily characteristic. But when this chemical gets trapped in the follicle, it gives birth to whiteheads and blackheads. Beside this there are also other reasons:

Genetic Reason

Science says that a person is more prone to acne if their parents or forefathers have been a victim to such disease. Though the specific genome that causes acne, has not yet been established, but the researches are satisfactory to prove heredity playing a role behind acne.

Hormonal Reason

In adolescence, the sebaceous glands produce more sebum due to the influence of the hormones called androgens. When this greasy substance combines with the dead cells and the bacteria on the skin's surface, the follicles get blocked. At the same time, the bacteria starts multiplying inside the glands, thus causing inflammation.

Dietary Reason

These days people are more exposed to junk foods which contain significant quantity of fats and chemicals. Intake of such chemicals in large amount lead to hormonal imbalances which in turn lead to improper functioning of sebaceous glands thereby causing acne.

Environmental Reason

Several medical studies conducted, have depicted that people living in highly polluted areas are more prone to acne.

Stress As A Reason

Stress enhances the production of adrenaline and thereby causes repeated acne breakouts. To add on, this psychological factor also reduces the skin's power to heal open wounds or acne pustules.

Vitamin Deficiency

Deficiency of Vitamins like A, B, C and E and nutrients like Zinc can lead to acne development. Usually Vitamins act as antioxidants which help in eliminating toxins and neutralizes the harmful free radicals.

Miscellaneous Factors

Scientific studies have also found that certain pharmaceutical products and medications are also a major cause for acne breakout. Makeup products, using oil as a base material, can cause pustules, cysts, whiteheads and blackheads. Rough exfoliation and abrasive cleaning harm the skin by leaving the follicles opened to bacterial attacks.

Acne can be a widespread disease, but can be easily cured using the natural ingredients found in our homes. Lets take a look at those acne remedies at home. Foods like egg, meat, green leafy vegetables, intense colored fruits and dairy products are good sources of beta-carotene which is considered to be a precursor of Vitamin A. This vitamin improves the skin's ability to stay moist, repair itself at a fast rate and produce enzymes for stabilizing collagen production. Consuming green peppers, citrus fruits, broccoli, tomatoes and strawberries give an ample supply of Vitamin C which helps in eliminating body toxins. Diluted tea tree oil mixed with high quality aloe vera gel is also a great natural remedy for acne. Women can use Agnus castor or chasteberry to treat hormonally induced acne.

Individuals can also consume zinc and sulphur based supplement or acidophilus probiotic yogurt to get rid of acne problem. Last but not the least, cleansing and moisturizing of skin is necessary for people leaving in polluted areas to get rid of the dust particles.
