There are certain things you can practice to improve your technique and therefore make you a much better guitar player. Practicing technique isn't too much fun but if you would like to improve your playing it needs to be done.

The simplest way to practice technique is to identify a number of technical exercises and incorporate them into your everyday practice sessions. Don't spend a huge period of time on them but definitely leave time to work on these.

It's also very important where you slot these into your practice session so that they can produce the best effect. I would recommend about 3-5 minutes at the start for them to serve as a warm up exercise as well when you launch into your primary section of practice. Then work on it as the second last thing you practice. Another 5-8 minutes here will dowonders.

By this time you're properly warmed up and may continue enhancing your motor skills which is also termed as muscle memory. Always practice new things slowly so that you can get them nailed without learning mistakes along with it. Also use a metronome.

You'll observe that I said it should be the second final thing you practice. This is very important. As mentioned in the beginning of this article, technical exercises aren't that exciting so you don't want to end your session with them. Your brain will recall how you felt at the conclusion of your practice session so it's better to play something fun that you simply enjoy. This way it's going to send signals to your brain that it is fun and not a chore in order that you'll anticipate do this again and that's what it's all about.

The harder you practice the better you'll get. The better you get the more fun you'll have playing guitar. The more fun you have the more you'll want to play guitar. The more you play guitar the better you'll become. Get the picture? Ensure that the cycle matches your needs and not against you by practicing things in the right order and practicing persistently every day.
