It is real frustrating when a diesel truck shows functional issues or you simply fail to give out expected performance on the move. Normally you will find no single reason for such annoying issues but if your vehicle runs on Cummins injection pump, you may find some specific functional errors. The Bosch fuel injection pump or the VP44 injection pump popularly used in the Dodge Cummins engine has been known to have characteristic issues.

Well, before knowing about the mechanical issues you must know the parts of that particular fuel injection pump for which the trouble arise. This will not only help you know your vehicle better but will also help you troubleshoot the basic issues without involving the professionals every time. So, what is the VP44 injector pump and why does it malfunction? There are four basic functions performed by the Bosch fuel injection pump. These are: production of the maximum fuel pressure for efficient diesel injection, maintaining the perfect amount of fuel for every diesel fuel injection cycle, proper distribution of the metered fuel to each cylinder and performing the tasks keeping perfect balance with the engine speed.

The Bosch injection pumps are actually the electronic rotary distributor pumps that can efficiently regulate the diesel fuel injection timing and diagnostic data. Now the primary cause of Bosch injection pump failure is reduced fuel pressure which normally occurs due to the malfunctioning of the lift pumps. To be precise, the functional issues arise if the fuel pressure drops below 5psi as the normal pressure is 15psi. Here you must remember the fact that such functional errors can remain unnoticed until a serious damage occurs. That is the reason why in most cases it goes beyond the capacity of a layperson to fix the issue.

Here we will talk about two most common errors of the Bosch fuel injection pump. According to the technicians Check Engine Code 216 is such an issue that ruptures the front diaphragm of the diesel injection pump. It normally occurs due to low fuel pressure or weak functionality of the lift pump. In this condition, the piston starts vibrating to such an extent where it wears down the housing of the Bosch injection pump. This is the issue for which Bosch no longer sells the lift pump and has replaced it with a different and more advanced unit.

Rotor Seizure is another most talked about Bosch VP44 injection pump issue that happens when the rotor seizes in the distributor section of the fuel injector pump. Lack of lubrication is one most common reason of the issue. However, weak lift pump can also cause the functional failure. Here you only need t replace the Bosch VP44 injection pump to get rid of the trouble.

Now you must be thinking where and how to repair your vehicle when you have nothing much to do at your own? The experts suggest it is always good to hire the professionals to repair and restore the functionality of your fuel injection pump to avoid further hassles. But the best way to avoid such functional failures of the Bosch injection pump is to prevent them from happening.
