Burlesque has a plentiful and diverse history that began with a simple satire of the grotesque and undignified. The most recognised component in popular culture today is the striptease, originating from and popularised by the Moulin Rouge in the late nineteenth century and beyond. The Lingerie and Sexy Outfits used in these performances were quickly stereotyped and have been a facet of the fashion world ever since.

American Burlesque prompted the term to catapult into public consciousness as it grew in popularity as a blend of satire, art and adult entertainment. Burlesque's loose definition in the public eye led to it becoming generally viewed as low comedy or a simple striptease show. Proponents and performers though entertained extremely appreciative customers on a regular basis, eventually breaking out from the underworld.

Sexy Lingerie

Burlesque-influenced Lingerie is currently making a comeback, with the advent of new age Burlesque stars like Dita von Teese. There is a growing desire to create similar Lingerie looks at home in the bedroom and as a part of Lingerie collections around the world. Fortunately, the designers have picked up on this, and a mass of new pieces draw inspiration from the allure of the Burlesque show.

Burlesque Lingerie

The Burlesque look is channelled through Lingerie with the inclusion of Fringe Panties, Gloves, Stockings as well as Nipple Pasties with tassels. There appears to be a world of choice out there when it comes to Burlesque Lingerie, because at the heart of its success and creation is an unrivalled tongue-in-cheek playfulness - the result of Burlesque's original satirical playground. A Feather Hat is also often an important part of the Burlesque Lingerie Outfit.

Sexy Corsets & Waist Cinchers

Another well-known aspect of the Burlesque look is the Corset and Waist-cincher. Naturally parodying the naughty make-up of seduction with dark colours and temptingly close-to-revealling design strategies, Burlesque Lingerie revels in driving the intended audience to distraction. In order to achieve this against-the-grain sexual cheekiness, you need to use the Lingerie too. Less is more when it comes to Burlesque influence - until the final act, that is.

Glitzy Lingerie

Burlesque is an artform that, rather than conservatively avoiding overt expression and outright glamour, embraces the heart-on-your-sleeve mentality and self-deprecates itself at the same time. Sporting Burlesque-inspired Lingerie assumes a personal statement that you don't take yourself too seriously and, whilst being confident and in control, enjoy having fun on your own terms.

Lingerie Accessories

There is a lot to play with when it comes to making up your own Burlesque-inspired outfit. Swarovski crystals and ostrich feathers are essential, as well as a selection of satin gloves, garter straps and the vitally important aforementioned Nipple Pasties - which are, as it happens, available in a wide range of sizes, shapes and styles. To top your performance off, you might want to get hold of a life-size champagne glass to pour yourself into. Nothing will offend your audience as intensely, and, if that audience happens to be a partner of yours, prepare to rock their world.
