CATs test or Cognitive abilities test is perhaps UK’s most popular reasoning-skill assessment test. It is a comprehensive test aimed at assessing a student’s reasoning abilities on three major parameters: Verbal, Quantitative and Non-verbal. It uses tools like words, numbers and figures to gauge the ability of the person appearing for the test. This test is often employed as a means to decide a student’s admission by educational institutions that offer highly specialized courses like MBA.

The three parts of the test serve different purposes. The verbal part of the test has been conceptualized to gauge the reasoning ability through words. The point to be noted is the test of words isn’t exactly a test of the language. The purpose of the test is not to check the language skills but to test the reasoning by putting the candidate through a series of tests involving exercises to determine the relationships between various things. For instance a test like: If Jake is taller than Brian and Brian is taller than Victor, then who taller between Jake and Victor, would challenge the candidate’s mind to work through complex situations.

On the other hand, Quantitative tests try to assess the same, but with the help of numbers instead of words. The candidate would require engaging his mind and use it’s sharpness to establish relationships and identify patterns in exercises containing numbers.

The non-verbal section in a CAT test includes exercises designed with the help of figures and patterns in order to check the same abilities albeit in another way. Since this test involves numbers and figures in a way that makes them dramatically different from other conventional tests, it is particularly helpful in assessing the mind of students who fail to fare well in their academics either due to disorientation or due to a particular disability.

The leads and information that this test provides can be utilized as a means to get an insight into a child’s mind so that an apt personalized approach could be used to teach that child. CAT test is being increasingly used in the UK by teachers for the same reason.

If you stay in the UK and are an educator, teacher, student or parent, you could have access to the services of GL assessment, the best in this field that provides a comprehensive mechanism to judge a student’s mental faculties. For more information visit here: http://www.gl-assessment.co.uk
