Quite a good number of people mistakenly use the word ‘clock’ when they are actually referring to a watch. Watches and clocks are both used to manage time, but they are significantly different in design. The same can also be said of vibrating clocks and vibrating watches. Vibrating clocks have a strong vibration that is capable of waking up people who have trouble getting up in the morning. Thanks to the bed-shaking vibrations produced by vibrating clocks they can also be used for the same purposes by hearing impaired persons. It is advisable to place these clocks under your pillow or mattress as you sleep.

Most common designs of vibrating clocks tend to be rather bulky. They have a certain size and include large and easy-to-read displays, large vibrating alert pads, vibrator, and variable sounds and volume. Most use pretty big batteries or they have to be connected to a wall outlet, which means that they are hardly or not usable for travel or for people with active lifestyles. Since vibrating clocks are not worn next to the skin they have to give loud vibrations and to draw one’s attention. Clocks are therefore not discreet and using them when in the company of others will cause a distraction.

Vibrating watches are worn on the wrist just like conventional watches. Unlike vibrating clocks these watches are ideal for active lifestyles and traveling. They are designed to be extremely discreet in their notification roles. Wearing a programmable vibrating watch on your wrist will make sure that you are always silently aware of important activities like medication times and doctor’s appointments. Hard-of-hearing patients will also benefit greatly from the use of these watches.

It is worth mentioning that it’s possible to use pillboxes as vibrating clocks. This will only be ideal if half hour settings are close enough. Multiple alarm vibrating clocks with pill cases are now available in the market and these are another sound way to steer clear of medication errors. These feature a detachable pillbox that has multiple pill compartments, an easily legible display with LCD readouts, and sound or selectable sound/vibrating alarms. These ‘vibrating clocks’ are compact in size and will comfortably fit in a purse or pocket.
