I know, I know. You're busy and you don't have time (let alone money) to join a gym. But let's stop and think about this: Not every thin person in the world has a gym membership. There are other ways to lose weight and stay active that a) don't cost a lot of money and b) don't take up a lot of your time.

Here are some ideas:

1. Walk to work rather than drive. Or, if it's too far to walk, consider driving, but parking a few blocks away so you're forced to walk about 15 minutes to work and then back again to your car.

2. Take more public transportation. You'll save a ton of money on gas, will have time to read while someone else drives you, and taking public transportation usually involves more walking than taking your car which provides door-to-door service.

3. Don't rely on elevators. Ok, so if your office or your home are located on the top floor of a high-rise, then the stairs may not be so practical. So consider either taking the elevator all the way up minus four flights or consider walking all the way down (again, this depends on how tall your building actually is).

4. Stop asking for favors. You're sitting on the couch and you're thirsty: Get up and get your own glass of water!

5. Take your kids outside to play…and play with them! First of all, kids need to run around outside much more than modern life allows them, and second of all, you could use the exercise too. Don't bring them to an arcade where you'll sit next door with a cup of coffee; bring them to a park or play a game of basketball or soccer with them. Not only will everyone involved benefit from the exercise and fresh air, but you'll be setting a fantastic example for your children.
