Being green initiative is driving every field so is the industry of play equipments. The green initiative in play equipments are more significant considering the fact that most of the play equipments are made of plastic which are dangerous for our environment. Therefore, ensuring green and eco friendly play equipment becomes imperative for both the users and producers.
Most of the governments are promoting green initiative by giving incentives, carbon credit, and deduction on the basis of green taxation policy. Manufacturer of play equipment may claim carbon credits if they are emitters of carbon in the environment. They can even claim tax deduction if their country has adopted green taxation policy. Countries like Denmark and Netherlands have opted for green taxing policy which allows tax deduction and promote eco friendly play equipments.
Therefore, it is advisable to setup a manufacturing unit for play equipments in those countries where you can claim green tax deduction. For consumers and purchasers of play equipments it would be advisable to purchase only those play equipments which have green label. Many European countries have already implemented the green labeling policy in their nation. In fact the European union has issued binding guidelines for export and import.
Trade regulatory bodies have also been authorized to ban import of goods it many anything including play equipments to be imported in their home countries. They have even been empowered to seize the goods and order cancellation of import orders. There have been many cases where Indian business houses have felt the heat of this new green labeling scheme in European union especially in the leather industry have to face the wrath of new green labeling scheme.
Most effected business will be now the plastic based industry where implementing green labeling measures are comparatively difficult. Since the play equipment industry is also plastic based industry therefore they are also bound to feel the heat. Indeed this will lead to price escalation but there cannot be a better solution to save our environment from the health hazard which is non-reversible.
However the problem of price escalation can be controlled by implementing effective taxation policy. As we know that tax is an important price determining factor for any product therefore government can reduce the tax component in the price of play equipments. Simply introduce green taxing policy and allow deduction on excise tax will lead to significant reduction in price. Therefore the argument of price escalation to bring and implement green initiative in plastic industry is not acceptable. Indeed the business houses will not be ready for a sudden change but at the end they will realize that the saving environment is better for them as well.
In my interview with the representatives of several play equipment manufacturers very few have been ready to implement the green labeling scheme in their business model.
