Michael Faraday first used gases similar to Ammonia in air conditioning. Nevertheless, these chemicals were toxic, harmful and extremely lethal. These gases affected the ozone layer and thus phased out.
Ammonia chillers used in many industries to keep the environment cool, which is essential to keep their raw materials and finished product secure and safe. It is required in industries who manufacture chemicals, food, beverages and many more. Ammonia chiller is a much better alternative to R22 refrigerants.
Ammonia chillers are suitable for industries, which require a regular temperature of 25 degree Fahrenheit. This process has the chief ingredient Ammonia which is light refrigerant having high-energy value thus resulting in better refrigeration. However, in comparison to Air chiller, Ammonia chiller is cost intensive. However, over the period the investment yields maximum profit. The profit can be somewhat around 30%.
Technological development has made the procedure economical and efficient. Presently the design is compact and equally efficient to provide the necessary cooling temperature. The use of cooling tower has upgraded its performance. This method offers the same cooling performance even when the industry runs at its maximum capacity. With new design and development, the risk of Ammonia leakage has been removed and the mechanism keeps functioning for a longer period.
Refrigeration means keeping the environment cool, a specific space. It is a widely established technology, which is seen in every household and other industrial establishment. The use of Ammonia in refrigeration utilizes less energy and as such, it is vastly used in freezing plants, slaughterhouse, breweries, wineries, diaries and many more for the past many decades. There is no alternative technology to replace it at present.
The benefit of Ammonia in today's technology is that it requires undersized dimension piping and throttle cross-sections. Ammonia is not compatible with copper, thus different methods are used and a few companies have the expertise in this regard. Moreover, Ammonia is not a volatile gas but has a bitter smell, which is not harmful to human. It can give a temporary irritation and bad smell in the neighborhood in the event of leakage.
Today the air conditioner could give poor performance if the coil for evaporation is not properly maintained. The refrigerant circulates in the coil therefore it is pertinent one should clean it often.
