| Enliven the Yesteryears’ Spirit of Christmas with Traditional Xmas Gifts |

The custom of gift giving used to be the business of New Year. But it’s the German and Dutch culture that has collaboratively influenced gift giving on Christmas. Gifts have evolved with the changing trends of time and the changing minds of people. What was considered to be outrageous yesterday is now regarded as a great gift. Today, gifts can vary from the very traditional items to the funkiest ones we can think of. But truly remarkable among those are the ones that are chosen with the likes and dislikes of the recipient in mind. The recipient’s age and temperament, roles and responsibilities at home and at the outdoors – all these need to be kept in mind. That’s only when it becomes a right gift one can gift to the other close to his/her heart.
Some people like the sheer simplicity of a greeting card while some other cannot think of anything else than the upscale. For some, it’s really ‘the thought that counts’ but for some others, the earthly value is what actually matters. For the former, choosing gifts becomes easy but for the latter, it needs a lot of thinking, scrutinizing and hinging on the thought that the gift you choose will be liked.
You can think of a deluge of Christmas gifts to give your near ones but don’t you think something different always makes an impression? Surely, making an impression is not your prime objective but something out-of-the-box is good and makes the gift giving merrier. You can actually enliven the spirit of the occasion with not-so-ordinary gifts like incense, which was one of the three gifts the magi had brought for baby Jesus.
Homemade food and sweets are associated with the traditional Xmas gifts. They were regarded as very special gifts till the industrial revolution came, that created a platform for manufactured gifts; replacing the homemade ones. Oranges were rare in the 10th century and were precious gifts for the most joyous occasion. This Christmas, why not give your dear ones the gift of a home cooked treat? Or a basket filled with ripe oranges freshly out of the farm and relive yesteryears’ spirit of Christmas?
