Aluminium ladders are the practical tools which need to be present around our homes always. We use them to do several house chore activities like hanging wall paintings or lights, painting or repairing the roof, changing the light bulbs, cleaning the gutters & much more. Thus aluminium step ladder helps us to reach at least 8 feet above the ground & manage whatever is required without any difficultly.
When it comes to hold your weight, aluminium ladders can pass the test. Most of the time, they are found to be stronger enough to strike a proper balance while climbing. But care should be taken in using an aluminium step ladder otherwise you may fall down.
Following guidelines are prepared to help you use the aluminium step ladder safely & escape from accidents.
· The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has set certain ladder safety standards which an aluminium step ladder must pass before being used. Different ratings have been fixed for lifting various work loads on them such as heavy-duty, medium duty & light duty ladder work. Heavy duty work will need an aluminium ladder to be able to hold up to 250 lbs, medium up at 225 lbs and a light duty up to 200 lbs load. So it is better to weigh you & the materials you need to take along with yourself on those ladder steps & choose an aluminium ladder that can hold them properly.
· When an aluminium ladder leans against wall, its foot should always be one foot away from the wall for every four feet extension in the ladder.
· Try to make the top of the ladder secured to the landing point in order to increase its stability. Using a roof ladder with special hooks or safety handgrips at the top end is considered best for security reasons. Thus the chances of the ladder falling away from the object it is propped against or sliding sideways can be minimized.
· It is highly unsafe to stand on any top 3 steps of an aluminium step ladder. So avoid them fully & if at all becomes necessary, consider holding on to something solid for support at that height.
· Since aluminium ladders are good conductors of electricity, it would be better to keep them away from live electricity resources like power lines or electric wires otherwise it may cause you grievous electric shock. |
