Though most of the slug species are harmless to human beings, there are some types of slugs that are considered as garden pests. These are the type of slugs that you need to be wary of because they truly are a destructive force to your plants. These slugs use up foliage faster than plant growth and may also kill pretty huge plants such as shrubs and small trees. The slow moving insects will also be a risk to agricultural, chowing down on fresh fruits, vegetables, and different kinds of vegetation that they can get their slimy bodies on. Now how is it possible to prevent slugs from harming and damaging our garden? Here are a few ways to get relief from these annoying garden slugs.
Hand Picking
The most effective way to get rid of slugs is by hand picking. It might not be the simplest of procedures though, because it will include searching for the slimy pests in the corners of your garden and using your bear hands to take them on the floor. Be sure to use a glove in handpicking slugs to protect your hands from the disgusting slime that is covered all over the insect's body. You may also try using a pointed stick and just impale the insect once you see it. Then put in a container and pile the corpses, after which you can either burry it in the ground or throw it away. This is not only a cheap method, but you will enjoy doing it.
Slug Traps
Slugs aren't evasive insects. They move very slowly and are mindless. So, if you want to get rid of these creatures easily, you can place traps. You can try digging a hole in your yard and place a can or another open carrier leveled in the soil surface. Fill the empty can with soap solution or any other solution that are deadly to insects. Once the slug falls in this container, it will drown easily.
Pellet Baits
Iron Phosphate pellets are successful baits that can quickly kill the slug after six days of intake. You can purchase it easily from any garden hardware or insect control store. You just spread them around your garden and wait for the bait do its damage.
These are three most effective ways to get rid of garden slugs. It is vital that you have precise knowledge on the actual slugs that can cause destruction to your gardens foliage so you can focus on the right pests you need to damage. They will usually appear after rain fall or when the weather is moist and humid. Be prepared to set out traps and pellet baits while in this weather condition. You can also try cleaning your garden by moving away dead logs and huge boulders which work as sleeping places for slugs and other damaging insects in your garden.
