| Praise stickers pay in or outside school |

If you are a parent, teacher or work with children in any capacity then you will know the power of praise. Since Pavlov first showed a link between stimuli and response, it has been obvious that some things are more useful in promoting repeated behaviour than others. We all respond well to praise; it makes us all feel good, regardless of our age, but it is also one of the most effective ways of encouraging children.
Responding positively to good behaviour, good effort or good results is a sure fire way of promoting a repeat performance. Here at Brainwaves we find that our praise stickers are a great way of rewarding children.
Praise stickers say that the teacher or other adult like what the child has done. Furthermore, many of the praise stickers can be worded in such a way that they get others to ask the child why they got the sticker. If the child keeps repeating how they earned the sticker it is also reinforces, in the mind of the child, that what they did was good. The stronger the reinforcement the more likely the behaviour is to be repeated.
It doesn’t need a psychologist to tell us this: common sense and our own observations of the children in our care show us that reward and reinforcement lead to the repetition of behaviour. It is the repetition of good behaviour, whether it is in terms of a piece of work or kindness to another, that it is beneficial to encourage. School stickers can be a minor part of an effective educational system.
