Multiple Belt System has been used since many years. The traits of multiple belts and pulley system includes a formula that evolves the linear equations of motion for multiple belt systems. Equations of motion are formulated by the computer program developed by this algorithm. This could be thought of as sets of simple belt systems. Continuous belt systems is more useful due to its hard and smooth surface, resistance to temperature and corrosion, and as it is easy to clean and repair. As well, the serpentine belt is much compact and its replacement is simpler ?n comparison to the older system of belts. Reduction of number of points of failure is done in a machine. A serpentine belt takes the place of a number of individual belts that were used in old car models and in components that are still used today like in radio and transistor.
The function of all these belts is similar. They take power from the engine while it is operating to power other units in the vehicle. Motion like a rotating fan or of a generator is generated by these belts. The efficiency of the vehicle is improved. The serpentine belts can be fitted to the perfect tension and force keeping about the stretching in mind. The stretching might have reduced the efficacy of the belt or might have made it difficult for the auto mechanic to deal with. The performance can be increased by suitably adjusting the tension and other moments . In addition, the life of the belt will be longer than that of a multiple belt system.
Most of us like doing the work on their own. Lots of people, either simply because for the love of it or because they are not financially well, like to change these belts of their automobiles on their own instead of going to the near mechanic or service station and incur some expenditure. These serpentine belts are easily replaceable manually and hence is more useful for such people. The simple reason is that the different engine part of belts need not be taken out. Removal and replacement of a single thing is needed to be done. But, as one more added advantage, these serpentine belts are of an excellent durability and do not break very often. For vehicle drivers, the replacement of these belts is not a big issue. Once in a blue moon only, they need to do this task if they take proper and due care of their vehicle and its mechanical components.
But, like everything, these serpentine belts also have some negative property about them. When these belts do break up, the vehicle does not have any power supplied to the engine components that are driven by the belt. The driver can have some problem. However, these belts usually wear away slowly and therefore indicating about its replacement. A humming sound or immense noise indicates the replacement. Therefore, the vehicle owner can easily realize the need for the belt to be replaced.
