Two laws are giving the use of electronic signatures and electronic contracts legality in international commerce. The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) have legalized the use of electronic signatures and have given them the same weight as traditional, handwritten signatures. These two laws also give software providers guidelines and regulations as to how electronic signatures should be used, tracked and authenticated.

Experts are saying that while the legalization of the use of e signature software will make the technology seem less sleek and cutting edge, it will do so “in a good way” because most companies prefer to streamline their processes using the latest technology, even if it is the same technology that everyone else will be using in a couple of years.

This is especially good news not only for a software company that can create a digital signature, but also for small and medium sized businesses. The use of e signature software allows businesses with limited manpower to create, revise, and sign documents electronically while maintaining the legality and simplicity of the document. They no longer have to extend their sales cycles with lengthy emails requesting for explanations or changes in the terms of a contract. They can collaborate online, sign the document, and proceed with the delivery of the transaction.

The use of electronic contracts transforms small and medium sized businesses into powerhouses capable of delivering the best results. These businesses no longer have to live in the shadow of huge corporations because they too can offer the same services, the same customer service, and the same efficiency rate if they use e signature software when dealing with clients. Small and medium sized businesses do not only get the benefit of making their processes quicker, they also get to make their methods simpler and easier to manage. For example, instead of attaching an endless number of changes and documents to a contract, people involved in a project can simply upload it to the cloud where the entire group can collaborate on the document before finally signing it.

The small and medium sized business market is huge and it is about time that software companies give them the necessary tools to expand. Software developers first developed the “shopping cart” for e-commerce businesses, which changed the way people shopped online. Now, it goes full circle with e signature software. Companies can enjoy end-to-end transactions all done in the cloud.

There are many companies out there that can create a digital signature for your business. However, you need to keep in mind that not all software companies are created equal and cost may not be the most important thing to keep in mind when it comes to selecting service providers. A good e signature software package must include a way to seal or lock a document from alterations once the signature has been affixed. It must also have a way to track how and where your signatures have been used.

Small and medium sized businesses are definitely signs of the times where everyone wants to be their own boss and own a company that offers quality service. By using electronic contracts, you improve the quality of service you provide your customers.
